ADDITIONAL SENIOR CITIZEN ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL
The Town of Binghamton Seniors Commission has added some additional activities to their calendar:
Thurs., March 27th – 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – MOSAICS. (Crafts) This is one of the ongoing meetings of Mosaics, roughly once a month. In February, Lisa led five of us in making such items as casting trivets, applying mosaics to yard plaques, wooden butterfly houses, & ceramic bird feeders. On this day, we’ll try our hands at the same or set mosaics in wooden trivet forms, accent picture frames, decorate flower pots or create paver designs (student choice). We have met the minimum for registration. Please feel free to join, too, by RSVPing at 607 772-0357 x301 by Weds., March 26th. Supplies & refreshments are provided. Follow up meetings are determined at the end of the current meeting.
Friday, April 4th – 6:30 p.m. FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK (Arts/Museums) Lisa is forming a group to attend First Fridays in downtown Binghamton to enjoy the openings (and receptions, if any!) of the new art shows that are revealed on the first Friday of each month, plus the various street performances and special events that are put on at the same time in the gallery area. This month, in addition to the art, there will be a mindreader / hypnotist and Phelps Mansion will be open for free self-guided tours. The trolley isn’t running yet so we’ll be walking exclusively (dress appropriately!) but in the future we can hop on & extend our range. Please RSVP at 607 772-0357 x301 by Tues., April 2nd; rendezvous spot will be provided. A minimum of four people must register or the event will be canceled.
Thurs., April 10 – 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. PYSHANKY (Crafts)
You’ve seen those intricately decorated Ukrainian eggs – now you can learn how they’re made! Lisa & special guest Christine will teach each participant to make their own (manageable version of!) the traditional Ukrainian folk art of using the wax-resist method & special dyes until all the wax is removed at once revealing the beautiful finished egg to take home! Please RSVP at 607 772-0357 x301 by April 4th. Supplies & refreshments are provided. A minimum of four people must register or the event will be canceled.
Weds., April 30 – 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 MOSAICS (continued). This is a tentative date. (Crafts).
Please RSVP at 607 772-0357 x301 by Tues., April 15th. Supplies & refreshments will be provided.
Coming in May: MACRAME / CROCHET TOTE CLASS (Crafts)
Lisa is forming a class to make hobo, slouch, envelope or tote bags from crochet and/or macrame using various materials such as wooden handles, textured yarn or cordage. A date will be set if enough interest is expressed. Please RSVP at 607 772-0357 x301 by April 30th. Supplies & refreshments will be provided.
If you’re a resident of the Town of Binghamton (55 years and older), please feel free to join us! These activities take place at the Town of Binghamton Town Hall, located at 279 Park Avenue, unless noted otherwise.
