APRIL IS “DONATE LIFE” MONTH

A flag is flying at the Town Hall this month to promote organ and tissue donation awareness.  Did you know that there are currently over 100,000 patients waiting for a life-saving organ transplant in the United States?  Hundreds of thousands of people will need a tissue transplant this year.  You have the power to help save and enhance lives.  Organ donor registries allow people to document their decision to donate organs and/or tissues.  Joining the registry ensures that a person’s decision to be an organ and/or tissue donor will be  honored when possible.  Here are some facts about donation:  On average, 17 people die every day waiting for an organ transplant; someone is added to the National Organ Transplant waiting list every 13 minutes; one organ and tissue donor can save or enhance the lives of up to 75 people;  an open casket funeral IS possible for organ and tissue donors.
