WATER DEPT. WILL BE FLUSHING FIRE HYDRANTS: OCTOBER 8, 9, & 10, 2024

The Town of Binghamton Water/Sewer Dept. will be flushing fire hydrants on the following days beginning at 3 a.m. and ending at 7 a.m.:

TUESDAY, OCT. 8, 2024 – All of Orchard Park, Burr Avenue, Pierce Street, Powers Road, and Lillian Drive

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 9, 2024 – All of South Mountain including Aldrich Avenue, Brookside Road, Clifton Blvd., Edgebrook Road, and Moore Avenue.

THURSDAY, OCT. 10, 2024 – All of Park Terrace plus Beechknoll Road, Alpine Road, Morgan Road, Oswego Street, Geneva Street, Seneca Street, and Mill Street.

WHEN TURNING THE WATER BACK ON, PLEASE ALLOW THE COLD WATER TO RUN UNTIL IT CLEARS. IF YOU HAVE A WATER FILTERING SYSTEM, PLEASE WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE FLUSHING TO CHANGE YOUR FILTER.

NOTE: We flush the hydrants at least once a year to promote the chlorination process and to dislodge any sediment that has built up over the year. We do this according to Health Department recommendations. This notice is to let you know when we will be flushing and to let you know that it is essential to shut off the water service to your home. Some homes will experience pressure problems that can damage fixtures and pipes unless the water service to the home is shut off during hydrant flushing. In the past, some homes that did not shut their water service off had problems and damage to some fixtures. To avoid this problem, it is essential and imperative that you shut off the water service to your house (before the meter) during hydrant flushing. We do the hydrant flushing during the night time to minimize any inconvenience. Please be sure to turn your water off the night the flushing is to take place. You can then turn it back on after 7 a.m.

The Town is not responsible for damage caused by the failure to shut off water service during hydrant flushing. We hope this notice clarifies the situation and alleviates problems.

If you have any questions, call the Water/Sewer Dept. at (607) 669-4323.  Thank you.
